making Japanese food more accessible and affordable in the north west, uk.

our mission

We aim to make Japanese food more accessible and more affordable.

Many people have little experience of Japanese food because it is served exclusively in expensive restaurants. The elevated prices asked by restaurants are understandable because most ingredients are imported from Japan and “sushi spec” fish is particularly expensive.

To allow people to enjoy Japanese food at a reasonable price, without compromising on quality,  we operate virtually stock-free, buying in just the right amount of fresh ingredients to cater for the orders received and deliver top quality Japanese food without the elitist price tag.

takemoto takayasu

(aka: taka)

Taka, is a professional Japanese head chef, specialising for over 20 years in the craft of sushi.

Sushi Craft is a family run business that has been opening the doors to authentic Japanese food in the North West of England for the last two decades.

All our sushi is authentic, made with only the best Japanese and sushi grade ingredients and crafted by Taka himself.

About the brand

Sushi Craft's visual branding is based on the Japanese 5 yen coin. As you can see, this coin has been made into a graphic to look like a sushi roll but here is the real explanation behind it.

The blue wavy lines represent water and the graphic is there to demonstrate fisheries.

The three golden curved lines mean rice plants and the graphic represents agriculture.

Fish and rice are essential ingredients for making sushi.

The middle circle of the coin means gear and the graphic represents industry but, I (Taka) made it into the sun. This represents the  Japanese flag which is a red circle  (the sun) with a white background.

The Go-en means casual connection or relationship. This is why some Japanese, including me, carry a 5-yen coin in their wallets or purses to expect a new connection or relationship with someone although 5 yen is worth just 3 pence.
